Hi everyone

I wanted to plug in my Hi-Fi speakers today and went to use the 3.5mm jack sockets on the back of my motherboard and realised they're not working. I've literally tried everything to get them to work. This includes, re-flashing the BIOS, installing the Realtek HD audio drivers, using the Windows generic drivers, using Linux Ubuntu's alsamixer to adjust the volumes in a non Windows OS and of course the leads and they speakers are perfectly fine as they work on other equipment. Both the input and output sockets are not working, but Windows and Realtek's HD Audio suite detect when the jack is plugged in and out.

Please could someone shed some light on this, especially those who have similar Asus motherboards.

Many thanks

Will

Do you have multimeter?
Look for Audio codec chip ALC1150 at the corner of board for now:

Do I test the connectors on the back of the circled components you circles in the picture? Also I tested the SPDIF connection and that isn't working either. Is there a way to test the voltages on that too, or does the whole of the audio ports share that same chip?

Many thanks for your help so far.

My dad and I have tried to work out to how to test the resistance on this meter and it's been a long time since he was an electrician. The only thing that we can is a 1k resistance with the dial turned the left.
