.NET Framework 3.5 Error

After wiping an old HDD and putting it in my new computer with win8.1, I've had trouble installing Framework 3.5. I never really knew what it was until every other program on my computer I tried to install said it wouldn't run unless I installed Framework first.

I try installing it, but it just freezes at the end and gives me this error code, "0x800f0922" and says, "The changes could not be completed. Please reboot your computer and try again."

I'm running .NET Framework 4.0, but I'd like 3.5 in order to run the programs I use most often. Any help would be great.

Well.. Can you explain why half of the programs I've downloaded say "You must install .NET Framework 3.5 to run this program"? I thought it would be backwards compatible too.

well try this....uninstall .net 4 restart (run registry cleaner)then re install 3.5 then 4....as for the programs telling you "You must install .NET Framework 3.5 to run this program" they put specific code that search for 3.5 specifically that's why.

So.. It would probably be smarter just to wait for the programs that dont work to update in that case I guess?

Hi Everyone sorry if I am bit late on the bandwagon with this response but i found the same issue when trying to install dotnet on a preview of windows 10 today, and yes you do need 3.5., it won't work with dotnet 4 only for older apps that requires it. I also tried installing from the control panel as well as using dism but that did not work. The solution is simple however, when adding programs and features, just untick the dotnet 4 and click on the plus sign next to dotnet3.5., now make sure you select everything underneath dotnet3.5. so it shows you a checkmark and not a little block next to dotnet 3.5.. This is the only way this worked for me. Hope this helps someone that might be googling and come across the same problem. After this you can go and select dotnet 4 again for install. Cheers
Eugene

Thanks for the response. I got into windows features and disabled framework 4.5 without any problems. Then I tried what you suggested and enabled all sub folders of framework 3.5. After doing that, framework 4.5 re-enabled itself and said "Framework 4.5 is required to run (folders I forgot the names of)" I left it enabled just to see what would happen anyway, but sadly got the same error.

This is really starting to bug me. I can't find hardly anyone that's getting this same error and I have no idea why.

I struggled with the same issue. I tried everything: dism, uninstall 4.52, offline install, framework clean tool, etc. No dice.

I finally tried to turn on the feature in safe mode and it worked.
