I recently changed from an AMD Radeon R9 290X to a Nvidia GTX 970 in a hope that more games would be compatible with my card as I'm always having problems running games.

Started playing The Witcher 3 and I'm still having stuttering issues after the 1.03 update. Can anyone help me find out what my problem is, my CPU doesn't meet the recommended requirements but I have read that shouldn't be a problem

GeForce GTX 970 4gb
Intel Core i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz
16GB (2x8gb) RAM 1600 Mhz
Asus Z97-K Motherboard

Thanks, George

I've seen people that fixed stuttering by disabling sharpening (which was changed in 1.03). Some had to reinstall the game if they didn't disable sharpening before running into the stuttering for the first time.

This may not be the same stuttering that you're experiencing though.

Will try that anyway but it's like micro-stuttering when Geralt starts moving it's like he misses half a step. It's small but noticeable. Happens when I reduce the settings as well. Thought it might have been because my CPU doesn't meet the recommended spec but iv'e got no idea...

I've never tried the Witcher with an I5 however this is possible.

I have tried all of your solutions so far and I'm still getting these micro stutters
even on the lowest possible settings. I have no clue what is causing this, can't be the only one this is happening to.

That could be the issue, maybe the free upgrade to windows 10 will improve performance.

Windows 8.1 might solve your problem.

Still haven't solved this problem, upgrading didn't help either

Only just seen this response. Hairworks isn't the problem, im on ultra settings in the forest right now at 40-50fps. I start moving and it stutters/lags fps doesn't drop below 30.
When I'm in a conversation with someone im sitting at 60fps and it stutters when they move. has nothing to do with my graphical settings. Does the same on low.

Did you upgrade to 8.1?

it s not your CPU for sure. I have gtx 970 and i5 4460 (is worse than yours) and the game runs so smooth. I have all on ultra, except foliage distance on high, shadows on high and hairworks off. Game runs on 60-70fps most time, only in rain in swamps, or other places with smoke and rain game goes to 50fps. But is no problem cause the fps is so stable like in no other game.
I had this micro stutter on my old laptop, like u explain(but in other games), couldn t figure for long time what it was, than I found out it was cause I had old sound drivers installed. It was onboard sound and apperently win doesn t update this automatically. Maybe it helpd u.
Good luck

Have the same specs as u but i get stutters like hell even on 60fps

I am running Witcher 3 (E3-1231V3+Galax/KFA2 GTX970 EXOC/16GB RAM/500GB Samsung EVO) on all ultra except for grass density, NPC number and shadow quality. Those are on high and with hairworks off.
Every other postprocessing options are on including sharpening to max.
I get stable around 55 fps all the time @1920x1200 (Dell U2412M). <--occasional stutters.
On 2560x1440 (Acer XB270HU), I got around 43 fps (VSync off). <-- feels smoother here, I guess GSync does the job.
Well...that is without E3FX, with E3FX I got around 11 fps less for each resolution.

I do not really see the big stuttering issue like you are telling us.
