Intel states that the i75960X supports only DDR4 1333/1600/2133 memory types.

They state the same regarding the i75930k.

I know many people say that manufacturers wouldnt make faster memory than 2133mhz if the processors could not handle it.

But then I've heard many people having compatibility problems because of using faster memory then the manufacturer's recommendations. These people had no other problems to suggest it was anything other than using too fast memory. But thats what they say.

So Im quite confused here. Because Gskill have released memory with a test speed of 3400mhz.
Which is much higher than what Intel state their 5960X can handle yet alone processors lower down the chain.

So my question is can an i75960X be compatible with Corsair Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-3333 Memory. Or others with similar speeds.????????????

Another question is Intel state a max number of 4 memory channels does that mean 4 x 4gb and the like are best suited to it??????

Thank you, sorry for being so ignorant of cpu and ram compatibility knowledge.

The speeds intel states are the stock speeds. Anything higher is ocing. But it does supports those higher speeds. To take advantage of quad channel, you should get 4 or 8 stick kits. It doesn't affect performance much depending on your uses but you should want to take advantage of its features that affect performance. If you are building with the x99 platform, usually you have high needs or just extra money to burn. From your other thread, it looks like a gaming pc so this would just be a waste of money. Just go with a 4790k and sli 980 or whatever you can fit in that budget. Gaming pcs want more gpu than cpu and a quad core i7 is plenty.

Yeah thats the processor Im going for. But want to upgrade in about 9 months to a i75960x and the best ram i can get but wasnt too sure if its compatible.

Yeah its mainly for entertainment. But im gonna use it for my college course assignments instead of using the college's could do it from home. Involves editing and networking and some other stuff. But yeah mainly money to burn. Trying to get the best I can, just wasnt sure about compatibility.

I was thinking this build a 5930k and gtx980 rig for £2000 or under. With the best motherboard money can buy. Then after 4-5 months replace the graphics card with another/others for about £1000. Then another 4 months later get an i75960x but doesnt seem worth it. Since the 5960k can handle ram of same specification. So ill probably go for faster ram instead.

Honetly I think ther 5930k is the worst CPU for the buck. It's the exact samething as the 5820k except at a higher clock speed and more PCI lanes. The thing is once overclocked bot h CPUs have the exact same speed as they are both 6 cores. And the extra PCI lanes are only good for 4 way SLI.

IMO unless you are professional making money don't bother with the 5960X, just get a 5820k and invest the additional funds into a Titan X and a 4K IPS display.

btw I own a 5820k and a gtx 980.
