Logitech speakers & subwoofer no longer power on

I have a problem with my speakers. When I press the power button on the speaker, the green light does not light up and I do not hear any sound. I tried a different outlet, but had the same problem. I cannot test the speakers separately because they are connected to the sub-woofer. They were working fine this morning, but when I returned home about six hours later, I noticed they weren't working.

My friend thinks that a fuse could be out inside the sub-woofer or the speakers. He also thought that there may have been a power surge, but I seriously doubt that as I have my computer connected to the same power strip that my sub-woofer is connected to. If there were a power surge, my computer most likely wouldn't work.

The speakers & subwoofer have been working without a problem since I got them in 2005. Is the speaker system dead or what other things could I try? I do not have another pair of speakers or PC to test with.

Upon further troubleshooting, my friend & I determined that it's an electrical problem. After putting it back together, my friend noticed that the power light would come on briefly when he pounded his fist where the speakers connected to the subwoofer, but would soon fade out. We didn't hear any sound coming from the speakers, so it's either a problem with the speakers or the sub-woofer.

I decided to buy a new 2.1 sound system, as the cost to repair the old ones isn't worth it (one place we checked said that they charge $40 to diagnose the problem & the speakers I bought cost $20 more). It's funny how electronics are like that - work one time, then all of a sudden stop working.
