Hi I have had a sapphire r9 280x from december 2014, and as soon as I got it, there were blue artifacts everywhere, and I was getting horrible frame rates on most games (my old 650ti could do much better). I recently upgraded to Win 8.1 to see if it made a difference and now I get a blue screen once everywhere 4 days or so saying thread exception not handled. Do I have a faulty card? I have tried re-formatting, re-installing windows, sweeping for old nvidia drivers, and have come to no prevail, any help or guidance would be very appreciated as I am at loss, thanks in advance :)

Overall rig:
16gb ddr3
450 corsair PSu
R9 280X (sapphire)
i5 4460

Thanks for the reply, are you sure though? is there anything I could do to check this? if not what sort of PSU would you recommend? I do not have experience with them and which ones work best with this card etc.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:
•AMD R7 260X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 450 Watt power supply unit.
•AMD R7 260X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 650 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
•AMD R9 270X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit.
•AMD R9 270X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 700 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
•AMD R9 280X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
•AMD R9 280X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 750 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

Thanks for that. But do you think that a bad/low power supply could cause a BSOD? Wouldn't it just shut down the PC? :) thanks for the answer btw

Well I apologize for asking questions, I just wanted to make sure before I spend 60 odd quid on a new PSU.

No that is okay, I will look around for a new one. Thanks for your help :)

It is returnable if it isnt the PSU, but more likely than not that is what it is. The PSU is the single most important component in ANY PC. Youll finally get a chance to see the 280X in all its glory though once you upgrade your PSU. Its a nice card, I had 5 or 6 7970s since the card has come out in various configurations, and was please with its performance til recently.

Hey man, thanks for the help I will get a new PSU. I looked up seasonic and it is a bit out of my price reach. Would the corsaird 750w CXM be okay? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Modular-Bronze-Certified/dp/B00ALYOTTI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1432383608&sr=1-1&keywords=seasonic+psu :)

Yeah I did man but they are a lot more expensive than the corsair one. Will I be okay with a corsair one if I get it?

Thanks for the links to the tiers, I just ordered a 750w ATX corsair from tier 2. :)

Get an XFX 550W power supply or a Seasonic 520W power supply.
