Help with 3rd party Xbox reciever

I bought a third party Xbox 360 wireless adapter, here:http://. I cannot get it to work on my Windows 7 desktop, or Windows 8 laptop. I am plugging it into powered USB ports. I have Googled extensively and cannot get any solution to work.

i have MS wireless receiver too (not sure if its OEM or 3rd party) and i had the same problem after connecting it to my PC. i have to manually go into device manager and install the driver. here are instructions on how to get it working:

Right click on Computer
Go to Properties
Click on Device Manager
Right click on the Unidentified Device
Go to Properties
Go to the Drive tab
Click on Update Driver…
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Windows Common Controller for Window Class
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]
Update Driver Warning
Click Yes

If it is listed as "Unknown Hardware" Right-click, update driver, browse to the bottom of the list and "XBOX 360 Peripherals and accessories" or something to that effect will be listed. Select this and the list of hardware will appear. Choose the XBOX 360 Wireless receiver and go through the install process.

It is listed as an unknown device. I have done the manual change and it has not worked. I have tried it at least ten times. The light on the receiver lights up, but the controller will not connect. I have used multiple controllers, too.
