I'm gonna be building a PC here over the next few weeks. I'm trying to decide if I wanna go big and go for the 2011 platform or not. If I were to go 2011, I'd be looking at either the 5820K or 5930K. So my first question is, is the 5930K worth the money. The only difference I see is the higher clock speed. Second, If I go 1150 I'm gonna get the 4790K. I will most likely be doing mainly gaming so I figured go 1150 but I used to YouTube a bit. I stopped YouTubing recently but I've been thinking about picking it up again. I don't want to regret going 1150 over 2011 if I end up video editing again if the performance is that much better. So my main question is how big of a difference am I going to see comparing 4790K to the 5820K or 5930K while video editing or any other task for that matter.

Thank you all for any input given!

Well, if you going to be doing it consistently, I do recommend lga 2011. As for gaming, the extra cores won't help in gaming as most games are not well optimized for anything more than 4 core. For 4k gaming, gpu power will be very important with sli 970 being the requirement for gaming at that high resolution. I don't games will be using more than 4 cores for a while since gpu power still needs to caught up in terms of performance before any game really needs anything beyond a i7 4790k. A i5 4670k can handle any gpu without Hypertreading and is a quad core processor.
Very few people need a processor stronger than a i7 4790k. It's difficult to justify the x99 platform as its parts are significance more expensive than z97 and don't provide a better gaming experience. For rendering, there is no doubt that x99 will be much faster with 6 or more core and 15 mb of cache. To paraphrase, if you will be rendering consistently, the x99 platform is king. Otherwise, z97 platform is a much better value.

2011v3 isnt a boost over 1150 either right? I'm planning on going 4K or multi monitor, but even if I do that, gaming isnt to the point where it needs more than 4 cores pretty much right?

If I got back into YouTube, I would probably only edit a video maybe once a week or every other week, I'm gonna guess 2011 isnt worth it unless im editing like every other day or something then right? And you think gaming wont demand more CPU power in the near future?

So gaming then with the 2011v3 will not have any better performance over 1150? What about streaming while gaming too? Will streaming on an 1150 setup with 4790K impact gaming at all compared to 2011v3?

I'm just gonna go with a Titan X. I figure it'll be fine with most games for at least 30 FPS gaming. If 4K is too demanding for the games I play with the Titan I'm gonna probably just go with 1440p or something then. Thank you for the input!

Oh alright thank you then! I'm not gonna be editing that much for YouTube even if I do get back into it so I'm gonna go the 4790K route and stay 1150. The 4790K should be fine for the amount of editing I'll be doing. Thank you for all the info!

I see that now. For me and the amount of editing I'm doing, I'm sure the 1150 route will be fine. Thank you for your help!
