Windows 7 setup troubles caused by overly-active SSD?

I recently purchased an SSD to replace the failing HDD in my parent's computer. I put Ubuntu Linux on the SSD first, just to see if they would like Linux. They didn't -- and asked me to put Windows Seven back on the computer for them. So, I went ahead and burned the windows 7 x64 pro sp1 iso to a usb drive and began the installation. After the installation finished and the "Set Up" Windows window had appeared, I noticed that the computer had become essentially nonresponsive. After glancing over at the tower (an XPS 7100), I noticed that the hard drive activity light was fully lit. The light stayed this way for several minutes and the computer remained unresponsive until I shut it down. I tried installing windows 8 on the computer and the same issue occurred. I then tried re-installing Linux (Ubuntu, again), which worked fine. The computer booted up very quickly and all applications loaded within a second or two. As my parents do not want to continue using Linux, what can I do to resolve this problem?

The model number of the SSD (from hdparam -I): SSD2SC120G3SA754D117-483
Firmware revision: N0815B

Computer Specs:
Model: XPS 7100
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1045T
OS: Windows 7 Professional SP 1 x64
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz

Thanks for the help!

Although I doubt that this will help, I always start with a factory reset on an SSD before each installation. It's an instruction called Secure Erase. I use the bootable distro Parted Magic to run it.

As I said, I doubt that this will solve the problem but it's easy to try and takes only a few minutes.

I used gdisk /dev/sda and then entered 'x', 'z', 'y', and 'y' to wipe the drive. Will try reinstalling Windows now and will see what happens and report back.

Update: The above did not help to resolve the problem.
