I'm planning on building a 1500$ PC for video editing, CAD and gaming. I don't think i can wait 3-4 months for Skylake so i will most likely buy the upcoming Broadwell i7-5775C(65 - TDP) that might be released on 2nd June on Computex 2015 alongside AMD 300 series.

There are rumors that they will support LGA 1150 socket, will there be a new Intel Chipset released alongside Broadwell or will they just be for z97 / h97 motherboards that were promising 5th generation CPU's compatibility?

If so, if i buy z97 chipset motherboard what would be the easiest way to update the bios?

Solution

every single lga1150 motherboard will work with the broadwell chips, but because there will only be two, z97 is preferred.
bios updates should come out with broadwell, but it should just work with the stock bios.

my brother, don't get the 5775C. it is already available to pre-order for over 500 bucks, because what people are saying, is that it is intended for SFF builds and overclocking, because it has beefy onboard graphics (compared to what intel has offered until now), and the 14NM transistors help with heat, so it overclocks better. wait until the 5775C launches, see what is the launch price, and if its the same price as the 4790k, just get it, but if its more expensive, just the Haswell.
this is infact what I am doing myself right now. im looking at the 5775c, but when I looked around, it is much more expensive, so im waiting.
