Hi,

I recently bought a the MSI Geforce GTX 770 to replace my GTX 550 ti. When I tried to plug it in I saw the slots for my power supply were not compatible with the 770. I know it was quite retarded of me to not look at the power supply before i bought it, but I was wondering if someone could tell what power supply I should get now.

My Specs:

CPU
AMD Phenom II X6 1050T
Thuban 45nm Technology
RAM
12,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M/USB3 (AM3R2)
Graphics
27EA33 (1920x1080@60Hz)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti (MSI)
Hard Drives
SAMSUNG HD204UI ATA Device (ATA)
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp DVDWBD SH-B123L ATA Device
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device

I could not find the name of my current power supply anywhere. I only know that it is 500w

I prefer a power supply which is not too expensive.

Thanks in advance

If your PSU is from a good brand and it's not too old, you can buy molex to 6-pin adapters if you have 4 of them free. Seeing that you have ATA drives, probably best idea is to buy a new PSU. Any good brand like XFX, Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, etc are ok. Just don't buy a cheap one.

The CX series use cheaper secondary capacitors with longevity issues. The 550w XFX costs less and uses better quaility components.

Do you have anything to back this info up? I'm going on 6 years with my Corsair PSU and has been the best investment I have made. I usually would recommend at least a gold rated PSU but he asked for cheap so that's what I gave him.

I have used 5, 4 died within the first year the 5th lasted longer because it was shelved for awhile all had blown caps.

While the CX aren't system killers(most common problem I see with them is shutting downs) they still arent something I'd recommend especially since there are usually better quality units at around the same price or less. What model of Corsair do you have? Since it 6yrs old I guess a TX or HX which where made with better components. I'm currently running a Corsair AXi psu.

The one I'm using in my computer is this
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Professional-Watt-Modular-HX850/dp/B0090I9W66/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432488159&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+hx850+psu

You generally don't wanna cheap out on a power supply but I still have enough confidence to recommend the CX series from Corsair if your looking for a cheaper way out. On a personal level I would never use any power supply under the HX series cause I have learned my lesson from cheaper PSU's. It's really hard to recommend a cheap PSU cause you honestly get what you pay for. If your serious about PC gaming then always buy quality.
