So, I'm going to be upgrading my guest computer which contains Quad SLI GTX 480 1.5GB graphics cards. I found a super good deal for a GTX 690 4GB at $175 and I'm debating on it. Will there be a performance difference in a positive way? I am always utilizing the SLI as well, but I am aware that the GTX 690 contains two downclocked GTX 680's at 2GB per each GPU. Also, how will this perform in terms of modern games?

A single card is almost always easier then sli, and you get diminshing returns on each sli card you add. First adds 100%, seconds around 70%, then 40-50 %, and so on. Go with the 690, and you should be able to run most modern games on high but not ultra graphics.

If the game utilize SLI well then it will be faster than 970. While it was downclock to meet that 300w limit performanve wise it is no slower than 680 SLI itself. 690 design has been optimized in power consumption aspect. The only downside probably will be it's 2GB VRAM. What is your gaming resolution?

My current resolution is 1920x1080, however I am wanting to upgrade to 4K resolution soon. I am now thinking of getting either the GTX 980 or the GTX Titan X. The GTX 980 is half the price of the GTX Titan X, so theoretically with the saved money I could start off with two GTX 980's.

Will my FPS on a SINGLE GTX 980 be higher than that of Quad SLI GTX 480's?

I used to game in 1080p with a 2gb 760 without a problem. And also ihope you know on sli it only uses one cards memory. It doesnt use the combined memory of all the cards, it just uses one cards.

My previous gpu was 660Sli before i get my current 960. Heck i think i can also imagine what kind of problem what 970 with it's 3.5GB config will do.

@abbazamma

So you changed your mind? Performance wise single 980 will better than quad 480.
