hey, so choosing a monitor has proved to be one of the hardest choices for me, i've got a single gigabyte gtx 970 and was wondering if it could handle games at a higher refresh rate than 60hz on ultra/high settings, if it indeed does then the Asus VG248QE would be my choice, and if it could'nt handle it then i would go for the Asus VX239H its a 100$ cheaper here i play lots of different genre games like skyrim, witcher 3, counter strike global offensive, battlefield so its a pretty tough choice here :/

A 970 should be able to handle 144 Hz on most games but it also depends on what you use it for. Do you use it solely for gaming or do you edit pictures/videos as well. If you edit stuff, you'd want an IPS or VA, if it's just for gaming and the colors and viewing angles don't matter as much to/for you, I would go with the 144 (most likely TFT) because it will have worse color reproduction and viewing angles than an IPS or VA, but a higher refresh rate. Personally, I use a VA 60 Hz and 6 ms response for gaming and light video/photo editing, mainly because I can't stand TFT viewing angles or colors.

970 and 144Hz can only work on "high" with recent titles. There is no way you can pull more fps on ultra.
Where "high" is an average in scale of low, normal, high, very high and ultra.
If you not planning on having fun with 3D I would probably just stick to 60Hz with this card and better quality screen

IPS. Running most newer games on High/ Ultra with a 970 probably wouldnt get you very far above (if at all) 60Hz
Besides, if you like to marvel at the beauty of the game(s) you play than IPS is kinda default anyway.
