the pre applied stuff isnt too bad
just remove it with a lint free cloth--i use those ones they give you for free in opticians

It will work fine for the most part. Only re-apply if these things happen:
1. You decide to overclock. The stock compound isn't up to par with overclocking.
2. Your temps are consistently above 75c at load. An aftermarket compound will bring the temps down by several degrees.
