Trying desperately to fix my brother's laptop in which it seems the wireless adapter just disappeared.

I've just done a factory restore and the problem persists.

It is an ASUS X200M Notebook PC. I have no idea what type of wireless adapter is installed because it's not being detected at all, not even in device manager. It's not showing up under unknown devices either. This makes downloading and installing a driver for it very difficult. I've tried searching the internet for specific product specifications, but amazingly, the ASUS website seems to have removed any traces of this model ever existing and none of the ecommerce sites selling this model list the type of wireless adapter in their specs.

Ugh, I'm beyond frustrated, can anyone please help me solve this issue?

Solved it. Upon trying to install your driver and it not detecting the hardware, I opened up the laptop, located the wireless adapter, and reconnected it to ensure it was properly connected to the board and the power supply. This solved the issue. I can only surmise that the laptop was jostled and the power cord to the wireless adapter came loose enough to stop functioning.

assuming your exact model is the ASUS X200MA, I found the exact wireless driver on the ASUS driver, and have the (direct) download link here. Download this and install it onto the laptop http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/WLAN/WLAN_Atheros_Win7_64_VER1000285.zip?_ga=1.76916502.244215130.1432519937

EDIT: You may also need this, this is the REALTEK driver. The website shows 2 drivers, I would try both http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/WLAN/WLAN_Realtek_Win7_64_VER2012712312013.zip?_ga=1.81085460.244215130.1432519937

Here is the part of the site where I found the wifi drivers from, considering you did a factory refresh, you probably need the other drivers such as bluetooth, etc. so you can download those from here http://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/544/0/3/w0z9TBcK9ycJ3Jzl/30/

I decided to try your solution even though it says it is the x200m and not x200ma, but upon running the installation wizard it tells me no card is inserted, what the hell?

Is it possible that the card came loose some how? Is the next step to open up the laptop?
