So recently I upgraded to a 970 from my old 680. Instead of leaving the 680 in the box to gather dust I decided to use it as a dedicated physx card. So I plugged the 680 back in, installed drivers, went to nvidia control panel and switched to physx for the 680.
I did a quick test and it showed promises: in MSI kombustor physx liquid test, 970 alone got around 60fps; 970 + 680 got around 70fps. I ran Furmark for 1h and there was no issue.
However, there was a problem. I couldn't play The Witcher 3 anymore. Every time it got to the loading screen the computer would freeze. I couldn't ctrl-alt-del, alt-F4 or even reset the computer. There was a static, buzzing sound in my speakers. I had to hold down the power button to shut it down. I haven't tried other games though.
My PSU is a cooler master 1000W (I forgot the model but I bought it for like 200$ so I thought it should be decent quality right?)
Anyway, does anyone know what is happening? Any comment is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
