Do I get a 1080p Monitor and use DSR, or bite the bullet with a 1440p Monitor?

Hi Guys,

I've just fully upgraded my PC and now I am thinking about upgrading my setup, mainly a new monitor...

But, my GTX 980 has DSR, which allows my GPU to display up to 4k images and downscale it to a 1080p monitor.

Should I buy a better, 144Hz 1080p monitor, or go for a 1440p monitor... Because I can display 1440p on a 1080p screen so wouldn't that be more benefitial, and I can get a better screen for a lower price because its only 1080p?

Solution
DSR = "Dynamic Super Resolution renders a game at a higher, more detailed resolution and intelligently shrinks the result back down to the resolution of your monitor"

I found out the hard way that there is a very real penalty for using DSR. I went from having a super smooth system to stuttering and staggering along until I figured out what Nvidia had changed in my video settings.
