Problem with my HD7970 (GPU dying?)

Hello,

Since a couple of days my GPU has been acting weird.
Whenever I play CS:GO my GPU seems to crash and I get a black screen with green, pink lines all over it. I'll add a picture of what the screen looks like at the end.
However with games that are way more demanding like: Witcher 3, GTA V, ARMA 3 and Project CARS my GPU runs perfectly fine and has 0 issues.
Does anybody have an idea what the issue might be?

sounds like the GDDR RAM. That type of artifact is quite common. Try setting a more aggressive fan speed on your GPU with afterburner. Sometimes it helps if the GPU stays cooler to keep the RAM temps down too. Especially the case with a full cover block like the reference cooler.

My GPU doesn't go above 70 degrees when I'm playing CS:GO. When I play Witcher 3 my GPU hits 85 degrees and it runs perfectly fine. So I don't think putting my fan speed up would help since the temps aren't high at all when playing CS:GO. My HD7970 is the XFX Double Dissipation. I'm also running Windows 10 and the 15.4 Drivers.

Hmmm, I have seen this before too. With the lower GPU temperature, the fans are staying on a lower RPM. Which means if the RAM is working particularly hard while the GPU is not they again may collect excess heat.

Are you really unwilling even to try changing a single setting in a free program to see if it fixes the problem?

I already had a custom fan curve on afterburner but I'll try setting it at even higher RPMs. If that doesn't work should I be worried? Perhaps even RMA the card?

well not to say its your issue but with my 7850 I find the older 13.12 driver is the most stable ?? seemed all the 14.xx drivers had slight issues or something that I don't get or see with the 13,12 so I just keep going back to them for this older card

your call and it don't hurt to try them to see
