I'm gonna buy an external hard drive to use for a system image back up for my computer. I was wondering if I create one and put it on the hard drive can I still use that hard drive as normal. Like can I still store stuff as normal - like normal usb connecting and transferring files through windows back and forth? Does the hard drive only have to be for the system image or can i still use it as general storage as well?

Thanks

Hey there, ColoursExplode!

@richi3d10 is right, you'd be able to see the File History (usually how the System Image backup names itself on the back up destination).
This is going to be one folder, containing the rest of your system image files and folders. However, you'd be able to access the external drive and save anything else on it as you wish.
Usually only bootable USB devices are unable to do that, unless they are partitioned. So you should be good to go! :)

Best of luck!

Thank you both very much! One more thing. Can I also save multiple system images? Like different dates or even system images from other computers and then use/access them if i want to recover/revert my system back to whenever. Thanks!

Yes, you can save multiple system images from other computers as well, just don't forget to change the names of the different system image backups, otherwise it might overwrite your existing one. If you use Windows for the system imaging, it will automatically call the backup WindowsImageBackup. Usually, the OS is supposed to warn you when you might overwrite a file on the destination directory on the external HDD, but still you should keep it in mind. :)

Good luck! Hope I was helpful!

Pard me if I jump in, may I ask you if it's safe to save to divide the hd in partitions, one for data and one for the system image. Is the system image gonna be used correctly if saved on a dedicated partition instead of a un-partitioned HD?
