Hello,

I was hoping someone could provide input on my gaming PC build - over the past few days I've put this together, please tear it apart and rebuild, and let me know if you see any problems with it.

This will be my first build, so I'm very eager but don't want to end up shooting myself in the foot.

You can view my build here http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BmfvQ7 as for storage, I've got several TB drives laying around, so I didnt include it.

Thanks in advance!

@ Gam3r01 -- Thanks for the advice mate. I think the CPU is enough as it is, but do you think upgrading to a 290 or a 970 would make a substantial difference in performance? It's sitting at just under $1,000 total - so I'm not sure if I want to spend much more or not.

Also, nvida or AMD? I'm new so I have no idea

Okay so the site I'm shopping on has the ASUS gtx 960 and the EVGA gtx 960 for the same price as the AMD 280 - if it offers better power, could I just pick a 960 up and keep the same motherboard and case? Is the 128-bit rating more limiting? Also, ASUS or EVGA?

Thanks very much for the help, going to pull the trigger on my build tonight!

There are no problems with the build; it will work.
But... I have some preferences/suggestions.

1. Love a ssd for the "C" drive. But 120gb gets filled up quickly. Many things want to go there.
As a ssd nears 90% full, it will slow down and lose endurance.
I suggest 240gb. I currently like the Samsung 850 evo.

2. The stock intel cooler will do the job. But it is difficult to install for a first time user. The 92mm fan gets noisy under load. I suggest you use a simple tower type cooler with a 120mm fan.
Something like the $30 cm hyper212
3. There have been some quality issues with some R9 cards. On newegg, your selected card has some 18% negative(0 or 1 egg) reviews.
I might suggest a slightly stronger and more modern GTX960.
This one has virtually no issues and comes with some games.

4. A R9-280 needs 550w; you would be ok there.
The GTX960 needs only 450w or so.
Regardless, I think it is wise to use a 600-650w psu which could accommodate a much stronger graphics card in the future. It will only use the wattage demanded of it, so overprovisioning is ok.
The EVGA psu is just ok, a tier 3 unit. I suggest this Seasonic 620w unit which is tier 2 and costs less.
Gold certified really saves you nothing.
