I am getting a bit confused with people providing different builds and partlists for me. I am a beginner so this is all new for me. I decided to do a build to have a more reliable pc. With that said, my budget is 400 dollars without the operating system. I am not a gamer but i do need a cpu that is able to handle multi tasking, office work(microsoft office applications), storage, media streaming, has a HDMI port and WIFI.

I have two builds currently that were provided to me throughout this forum. Its just which one o go with and if neither, what would you reccommend? I honestly wish these parts were on microcenter as the store is literally 2 miles from my house in queens, ny.

here is an intel build

here is an AMD build

Let me know your thoughts, I am on a budget and I really want to stay with in the lines of 400.

I would get this

Thanks for your help. I was looking at the cooler master n200 atx mini tower case since it seemed to have better cable management then the elite case?

Do you think I need more fans? and why INTEL and not AMD for a budget pc? I am just curious.

Also, is there a way to sneak a ssd drive in this build?

For ITX builds its better Intel because it generates a lot less heat.

Intel is better price/performance. And the things you will be doing dont need more than 1 or 2 cores. So thats why Intel is better option it has stronger single cores

Cooler Master N200 has better cable management because its beigger but there shouldnt be any problems with CM Elite 130 because there is no gpu and lower Wattage PSUs dont have so many cable so personally i would go with smaller case there wont be any big differences in CPU temp if you go with ITX maybe 1-2C if even that

SSD hmmmm. Maybe go with i3 4160 and get an SSD. (But in my opinion is not worth it to sacrifice alot of CPU power for a little faster loading time). The only option i would go with is get SSD BX100 120gb instead of WD blue 1tb and when you run out of space get the 1tb HDD

That is a great explanation. I have had people compile part lists with cooling systems and graphics cards. I guess at a later time i could install some SSDS. I hear that its better to install the OS on a SSD than a hard drive.

I wonder if i can get these parts at microcenter. I have a store like 2miles from my house.

Lastly, can you recommend an optical drive and a wifi adapter?

Yes its better to install OS on SSD . It will boot faster programs will open faster. But that doesnt mean that HDDs are bad they are just slower couple years ago nobody had SSD. And if you are getting retail OS you can re-install OS on SSD when you will buy it.

At the top of my PcPartPicker list you will see "Price breakdown by merchant" click it and scroll down to Microcenter .

Wifi adapter is on the motherboard (integrated) for the optical drive if you really need one get the cheapest one

I see that Micro Center doesnt sell some parts (they should have i5 4460 100% dont know it doesnt show they are selling it)

Just follow this

CPU- i5 4440 or i5 4460
RAM- 8gb. 1600MHz or higer and CL9 or lower
Motherboard- Cheapest ITX H97 chipset (Built in WiFi) or you could go with mATX or ATX but you will need bigger case. if you get i5 4400 you can get cheaper motherboard H81 or B85 chipset
Storage- Cheapest 1tb HHD (WD, Segate or Toshiba)
Case- Depends on what motherboard you will get
PSU- 150w or more but it needs to be from Tier 1,2 or 3 http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
Optical drive- Cheapest with sata connection you can find

I heard you can get great deals at Micro Center. CPU and motherboard bundles so be sure to look for them
