Hello experts!

My computer uses 3-4 GB of RAM while I work and I like to game when I take a break. Should I execute the trade in the title if I plan to play Witcher 3?

Many thanks.

While I always advise against buying two sets of 2 x 4GB at a time as they are not guaranteed to work together, I have no qualms about adding sticks 3 and 4 to an existing set especially now as DDR3 is so mature and nobody has stopped making their normal product line. A bit of a voltage bump is usually the worse case scenario. Adding anything up to 2400 CAS10 will cost ya $65 tops.

Bengal: I plan to buy the game on the cheap soon, but this opportunity presented itself and I have about a day or 2 to decide.

Jack: I have the I5-4690K+8GB+GTX 980 and I've been offered the I7-4790K+16GB+GTX 970 and about 48 hours to decide. My work software is still open when I game, so about 3-4GB of the 8GB I currently have is gone. My concern is whether the posted minimum requirement of 6 GB for Witcher 3 is a hard line in the sand or is there still some give before the page file is used. If the 6 GB is a hard line and the page file is used, will the slowdown negate the advantage of the GTX 980 over the 970? I'm trying to remain revenue neutral at this point.

Jack: I think what both you and Bengal are getting at is that I should wait and see rather than jump into such a drastic trade at this time. Worst comes to worst, I'll just invest a bit of money to get more RAM. Many thanks!
