I've had AT&T for almost 2 years now and within the last 2 months my wifi has been dropping like none other. I have the standard AT&T Uverse 200 Modem and a Belkin Router, several times my cable on my tv has cut out and I had to reset the power by unplugging it for 10 seconds. I was going to invest in a wifi range extender, but I don't want to waste my money if I don't have to.

If you have a good wired connection, the problem is probably with the wireless radio in the Belkin and an extender would be no help (extenders are rarely useful, an extra wireless access point is usually the best course).

First, I would look for wireless interference from another nearby network -- download and run the free version of inSSIDer on a computer with wireless capability. You can get it from HERE. Look for overlapping channels with significant power.

If that fails to show a cause, try getting your ISP to give you a new modem. Finally, I would either borrow a wireless router from someone, or buy one that you can return easily (like from Walmart) and try replacing the Belkin entirely.

My ping is 56ms, my download speed is 22.47Mbps, my upload speed is 2.02 Mbps. We have had the Belkin for almost 6 years now.

I go from -40 dBm to -30 dBm resting on channel 8, its rated at 2447 MHz @ -35-38 dBm

I am most likely switching from AT&T to Comcast (Only 2 cheap company's), I would be getting Google Fiber, but I can't since Google Fiber its service literally ends 1,000 feet away from my house. So you suggest I buy a new Cisco or Asus wireless router?

Your speeds and latency are good, the issue is your wireless signal, which may be an issue with the Belkin radio, but could also be an interference issue.

The ASUS routers are excellent, but first I would look at the other wireless networks around you to determine if you may need to use 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz. Of course your adapters dictate what you can use unless you upgrade them.

Are there any other networks on channels 4-11 with any significant strength? All of those overlap you and it is harder for your router to reject other off band signals that overlap you than those on the same channel. There are only three non-overlapping 2.4GHz channels (1, 6, and 11) as you can see on the figure HERE.
