Toms,

Long time system builder here... tonight was the first time I tried an after market cooler. I put in the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo into an 1155 socket system. The installation seemed to go smooth however I noticed that after I screwed down the heat sink there was some play or movement. I could actually rotate the heat sink on it's vertical axis..... is this normal? I thought that little notch in the cross hatch thing would have prevented any movement at all? System is running fine but it really bothered me there was some movement after it was supposed to be secure. Thanks.

After I installed my cm 212 evo I tightened it down till the screws didn't turn anymore and noticed the very same thing. I personally don't think it matters that there is play after tighting the screws, because my temps are still really low compared to my stock Intel cooler. My cpu is a I7-980x

Do you think I missed that little notch on the cooler? I thought it was there to prevent rotation?

I would not worry about it at all. Just keep an eye on yours temps. After I installed mine, I thought that I had missed something as well as there is more play than what you would think there should be. If your temps are relatively low then you should be set to go. If you start getting blue screens or your computer randomly shuts down then you may have an issue. At this point, I would say that your experience is fairly typical.

unless it turns more than 30 degrees or so you dont have a problem.if your temps stay good dont worry.
