Hi,
I bought this computer alittle while back and never thought about it (the ram) until now. It came with 8 gb of ram standard, but says it can hold 16 gb of ram. I read that people said that you shouldn't upgrade on this model for some reason. I don't mean to bother but I don't want to spend that much money to find out it won't work. It seems like it would work but I just wanted to be sure.
And also, would it make any difference as far as (Hardcore) gaming and video editing?

Solution
Here is the problem with the memory. When those computers were built back in 2010, memory sticks with more than 2GB on them were expensive. So Gateway used 4 x 2GB memory sticks to get you to 8GB. That means all four memory slots are full. If you wanted to increase the memory to the stated maximum capacity, you would need to buy 4 x 4GB memory sticks.

So I went to Crucial.com. They ask right off the bat for the computer manufacturer and model number, and show you which memory kits are compatible with your computer. They did know your computer model. Unfortunately in your case, they do not list any kits that would increase the memory beyond what you already have.

So while there may well be memory out there you could use to replace the...

Try to upgrade your CPU and motherboard first. They might not like 16gb, 12gb or whatever your upgrading too. Try to get a Intel Pentium anniversary at min and the cheapest socket 1150 motherboard you can find

Is there CPU you would recommend that isn't a dual-core and not incredibly expensive (up to $150)? Is the MSI 970 a good motherboard to get for gaming and upgradibility? (Would it also be a good upgrade for my motherboard)
