I am just going to buy an used desktop computer and i got 2 options for the same price:
- AMD APU A10-5800K (with it's own 2gb integrated gpu)
- AMD APU A8-6600K (with an external AMD Radeon R7 240)
I want to use it for HD video edition in vegas pro.
Both of them have 8gb ram, 1tb hdd 7200. So i think the only difference lies in graphics, but i don't know if A10's integrated 2gb gpu is better than R7 or not.
THANKS!

Solution
I would get neither. If you are on a tight budget then check this out.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($70.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($50.89 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2GB Dual-X Video Card ($133.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $255.87

You can't get more potent performance for less money. The next less expensive GPU is a R7 265 and it is worth the $12 more for the R9 270. The APU's paired with a GPU are underwhelming and the A10 by itself is also disappointing. If you are on a tight budget and must pick one then go A10.

All apus use the system memory, so will eat into your ram and thats why faster ram helps performance. I think it may be a motherboard setting on how much ram the igpu will use, but not sure.

I made the decision to buy a A8 5600k over the a 10 5800k because of the main difference was the clock speed and igpu, being the 6600k is newer, it should be better than the 5800k. http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-A8-6600K-vs-AMD-A10-5800K, Also the igpu of the A8 should be on par or slightly lower than the A10 http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8570D.96587.0.html shows that the igpu is similar to the A10 in performance

I agree with IamTimTech as a dedicated gpu will be better and the athlon is better as it is using the gpu.

Thanks for answering. what do you think about Radeon R7 240 ? i think its better to have a dedicated 2gb gpu, than a 2gb integrated. Does the r7 haves better performance than A10's integrated gpu?

It comes down to which one of the gpus perform better, vram is vram and is only as useful as the gpu core can keep up on filling it with information, more vram is always nice for gaming, but something with the performance of the integrated gpu of the apus, and a r7 240, 2gb most likely will be hard to utilize, as the gpu will be used before the vram gets filled.

Also u cant compare vram and determine performance, a 2gb r7 240 vs a 2gb R9 270x, is a no brainer that the 270x is vastly better as the gpu core is better, so really u need to compare the R7 240 vs the igpu HD 7660D in the A10 and HD 8570D in the A8.

As to answer the question, it is better to have 2gb of dedicated ram as then it leaves u with more system memory, as the ram for the apu is not integrated, the gpu is integrated, the video ram for the apu with no dedicated card is the system ram so regular ddr3, so if u buy 8gb of ram, and dedicated 2gb of that to the igpu of the apu, then u are left with 6gb of ram for system use. I could not find anything directly comparing the R7 vs the A10 but ill be back with answers.

Edit: The R7 should be better, but prob not really worth the money, as it seems that the A10 7850k apu is on par with it in terms of performance, and it seems a R7 250 is worse in performance than a hd 5770, which is quite an old gpu, so prob stick with the apu igpu, or get an athlon and a higher end gpu

The R7 240 isn't a good card for the money, even at $60. You will find yourself very upset with any sort of "gaming" performance. For a low budget card the R7 265 is as low as I would go.

I wouldn't recommend that either though, if you want a card that is a very good performer but still fairly inexpensive I would recommend R9 270

If you gave us a budget for your whole system we would gladly show you a few builds.
