Setup:

Mobo MSI Z97 G55 Sli
CPU 4790K
MSI GTX 970 Gaming (x2)
8GB Ram

I had this rig with one GPU, and it worked fine. I then added a second GPU, and now I cant get any noise out of my speakers.

Onboard Realtek Audio is enabled in BIOS, I have it as the default playback device in Sound Control, and have disabled the NVidia Sound controllers. I also tried uninstalling the NVidia and Realtek drivers and reinstalling them, but nothing I do is bringing back my sounds.

I did a bit of Googling, but none of the other solutions seemed to work for me. The last suggestion seemed to be uninstalling all the NVidia and Realtek drivers, deleting them completely from the system in safemode, drivesweeping any fragments, and starting again from scratch. Is this really necessary? This seems to be a longstanding issue, why is it still happening? Has it completely borked my Onboard sound chip, meaning I now need to buy an add in sound card? Bah.

Any suggestions (with detailed instructions) gratefully received...

Did you unplug the psu and drain the power before you installed the gpu, it's possible you shorted something out while installing the card. Most boards have the sound components right there and if you still have power in the board and touch something with the bottom of the bracket while installing it can short your audio out and there isn't much you can do.

No, I didn't do thought. I thought I was supposed to leave it plugged in to act as earth, but I didn't switch it off or anything.

Anyone know enough about sound cards to recommend a cheapish one?
