Ok so I've decided to go with an EVGA gtx 970 but there are so many different types. My current card is an EVGA 660ti FTW sig 2 so I thought maybe I'd get a 970 FTW but theres a FTW+ and a SuperSC ACX+ as well.

Don't know which one to get. I'm not all that interested in overclocking but if I do it will be minimal. Anyway, I don't know the difference between the ACX+ and the FTW+ versions of the card and if there are differences, how big are they when it comes to actual gaming?

Also on an unrelated note: can I keep my old graphics card in my computer as well to function as some sort of support card? I know I can't do SLI with two different types of cards but I've heard someone mention they use a second card to handle Nvidia physX on its own but I cant really imagine how that works.

Solution
I have the evga gtx 970 ssc+ (the newest version), I cannot be any happier with mine. I peak speed that I can acheive is 1620MHz on the core. It is not all game stable tho. I run it all day with just a little overvolt to 1500MHz.

Others have issue with the card and I cannot blaim them. Most really like the gigabyte gaming gtx970.

MSI gaming is another good one

The EVGA SC typically comes in last as it does here.

The FTW looks better on paper but I have not had good luck with the two I have owned..... after 5 RMAs, 18 months and 20 support calls, I still didn't get one that could run at the advertised speeds. Replaced that card with Twin 560 Tis and manually overclocked them 28%

You can use an olde nVidia card as a PhysX card

The difference between the SC and SSC is that the problem here was corrected

the only difference between the ssc+ and the ftw+ is the backplate which you can buy for $20. if you are getting an evga card then you have to get at least the ssc+ as everything under that card including the original ssc is junk.

you have to get one that was in the third round of production

notice that 3 in the 3975, these are from their third try at not making a crap card and they did suceed with those ones

they are selling for $315 right now and that is not a bad deal

just as a point of reference the newer ftw+ and ssc+ had allot of other improvements also. the acx 2.0 refers to the improved cooler but the + actually refers to a higher power limit, higher voltage, it also has dual bios and better voltage regulation

I read that article and it came last I think mainly because of the noise it produced but since the SSC acx 2.0+ model, that issue has been fixed so the article doesn't really apply anymore. When you say that your card didn't run at advertized speeds, did it make a difference when gaming or was it a small difference? Are you sure that you wouldn't have had the same results with the MSI or ASUS version of the card?

How do these improvements effect its standing against the MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, etc. cards?

Do you find it necessary to run the card at 1500Mhz? What does that do? Also, what kind of problems have other people been having with the card?
