This is my first time posting on a forum and first time building a computer so please be patient with me. =)

I have just built my first pc and I love it so far. I used a lot of advice from other posts on this website and they were all very helpful so thank you to those of you that are here to help! Well, everything is going great on the pc so far except when I log on to play my game (Final Fantasy XIV) I have been seeing some weird graphics glitches. I'm sure they have more appropriate names but I don't know them.

Before I decided to start a new thread I looked everywhere to find people with similar problems and try whatever I could find to fix it myself. This is what I have already tried:

- updating drivers
-reinstalling the game
-changing graphics settings in game
-limiting frame rates

It may be important to note that I had tried a minimal overclock on my GPU using CCC, just to see what its about. I didn't change too much for fear that I'd wreck everything. I have recently stopped OC'ing. I've also monitored CPU and GPU temps and they have remained less than 65 C.

This is what I have for hardware:
AMD R9 280 - Graphics Card
ANTEC 620W - PSU
AMD FX-88320 - CPU
8gb RAM
120G SSD

on 2x ASUS H236HL Monitors.

I play the game on maximum graphics settings and get comfortable get 60fps. I also manage to capture a few photos. As this is my first post, I've also never had to upload images before so if these don't work please tell me and I'll figure it out.

I've seen the problem on the first image occur anywhere on my monitors. Not just in game.

Whats interesting about this last image, is textures are protruding from the one character. When I inspected the character (an image of the character pops up in another screen) the same protrusions were in that new window just on that character.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

THEY'RE ARTIFACTS!!! THEY'RE ALL ARTIFACTS!

Well, that's what they're called. It happens when your GPU is unstable. If you've overclocked it past how far it can go, it may become unstable. Maybe roll OC settings to default settings (what it was like out of the box) and see if that continues?

If that doesn't work, underclock it. The R9 280x's are rebadged 7970s with a higher clock speed, so do that. They do have a higher OC failure because of this.

I've seen some reviews of people getting artifacts out of the box. Just do what I said about underclocking then. You can't overclock unfortunately in that case.

Yeah they say it comes "pre-overclocked" essentially. they have it at 972 MHz i think out of the box and I read on forums that people have OC'd it to 1050 or higher in some cases. I just did to 1000 MHz. I take it down to its non "pre-overclocked" setting and test it out. It may take a couple tries playing to see if it really works. I'll be sure to post an update.

From the results, the 280x has a very rare chance of hitting good overclocks. Your case must have been an unfortunate one. Good luck though...

As an update. I've been playing it at the reduced clock settings (933 MHz) and they have become much less frequent. The texture tearing has been been completely absent for several days and the other issues have become very minor. It seems to have worked after all. Thank you for your help!

I'm glad to hear you got it working. Have fun!
