Hello. I have just installed a new SSD in my pc. I have all my files (photos, music etc) backed up on an external HDD and I am about to transfer them to my SSD. Before I do I want to clean up my folders and delete around 15gb of files from the HDD... My question is, is it better to do this while the files are still in the HDD to save loading and then deleting them from the SSD, or, will deleting/recycling the files still use valuable write space on the SSD anyway? Cheers

I would suggest that you delete the unwanted files before the transfer. If you want to be sure they are completely removed and got no traces from them you can shred them with a 3rd party software... I remember AVG had such tool, or use soft to wipe the free space. I would prefer the 1st method as the second one works this way: your free space is filled with "junk" several times to completely overwrite the leftover codes of your files which ofc will leave some traces of the junk. Now you wont be able to see it anywhere unless you use file recovery software which will display it

Thanks for the replies. So moving the files from the HDD to the recycle bin of the SSD wont use space on the SSD? ...and if it does, is there a way of deleting files/folders so they dont go in the bin?

uh i get it all wrong it seems.... Recycle bin uses space from your drive
to bypass it when deleting press shift+del
Originally i though you want to remove all traces from those files (those traces dont use your space... atleast not in notable numbers)
