I was wondering which upgrade would help my gaming performance best.
Going from i7-4820k to 4930k ?
or
Evga GTX 780 sc\acx to GTX 980(or Titan X).

The type of games I play are (BF3,4,FarCry4,Crysis3,Civ5,D3,Elite Dangerous, Metro LL)

I'm leaning toward GTX 980, because since I switched to 1440p gaming my 780 is running alittle warm.

My current System is:

i7-4820k (X79-up4)/H60 Cooler
16 Gb Corsair Vengeance(1866mhz)
EVGA GTX 780 SC\ acx (3Gb)
500GB Evo 840 SSD
NZXT Sentry LX fan controller
Corsair RM 850 ps
Asus Rog Swift PG278Q monitor (1440p)

Thanks

Get a 980. Your CPU is fine, it would accept two 980's if that was the case. I have the same ROG monitor, I use SLI970 on it along with 2x1080p monitors, and it works tremendously good.

edit:

actually, you wont get that much improvement as Mr.@Dan pointed out from the 980. Either get two 980's or a Titan in my opinion. The 295x2 is a great card, but I personally like silence and efficiency.

2xgtx 970 would probably e the best price performance option, but if you dont want to SLI, the gtx 980 would be a very good option too.

About overheating, you should reapply thermal paste to your GPU.

Another very good option, probably the best, is to wait until amd releases r9 3xx series and decide what to do.
