Hello, right now I'm living in a two story house. I do not know much about internet and wifi so I might need a step-by-step tutorial. My router is downstairs, and my room is upstairs. We use wireless internet. I use at&t U-Verse and my router model is Arris nvg589. In my room I get a ping of 22-30, I get a download speed of 6-15 Mbps, and I get an upload speed from 2-4 Mbps. This internet is way to slow for me. I game regularly and this can not keep up. I am willing to spend $50 max to make my internet faster. My Wireless Adapter is a TL-wn881nd and my Wireless Access Point is a vap2500. I hope you can help, thanks.

My computer is saying I have 5 bars. But when I search the internet it takes a few seconds for a webpage to load.

Could you move the router upstairs then? Having a cable is almost essential for gaming. I don't see why the router couldn't be upstairs near you so you could use a cable and then whoever is downstairs can use wireless.

Is your computer far from your router?
If so I recommend a wireless wifi extender. This one is pretty cheap and worked perfectly for me: Zyxel WRE2205

I have ATT U-Verse also and something that helped me quite a bit was changing the channel. The problem with this is that the method of doing so varies depending on what model router you have. You can look up various tutorials on changing channels, but in general what you do is:
1. On windows 7, click the start button and type cmd, then hit enter. On windows 8, press ctrl+s type cmd and hit enter.
2. Type "ipconfig" (without the quotation marks.)
3. Look for your default gateway under your wireless network adapter. (should be something like 192.xxx.x.xxx)
4. Type that number in the address bar of any web browser.
5. Look around the menus for a "change channel" option. (This varies depending on your router. Mine was in wireless options)

Something else you can try is changing your DNS. Right click on your "WiFi Button" showing the wifi signal on your computer > Open network and sharing center > Change adapter settings > Right click on your wifi adapter > Click on an option with "IPv4" in it > Properties.
From there you can change your DNS. There are different DNS' but you can use Googles if you want:
Preferred: 8.8.8.8
Alternate: 8.8.4.4

Well, to give you a perspective, a new wifi extender (which you probably don't need since you get 5 bars) increased my speed from about 1-5 Mbps to about 8-10 Mbps. I think the best solution for you would be to change the channel. For me, even with the wifi extender, my wifi still slowed down alot. I went from 3 Mbps to about 8 Mbps. Basically, you need to check which channels are the most cluttered and pick the one thats least cluttered. Theres an android app for this: Wifi Analyzer

P.S. you can check wifi speed at speedtest.net

I'm pretty sure thats only showing maximum speed. 144 Mbps should be blazing fast. A better perspective on your internet speed would be speedtest.net.

6-16 Mbps shouldn't be too bad. How is your ping while in game?

It takes a few seconds for a webpage to load and YouTube videos sometimes have to buffer.

If that's the case, the best way to upgrade your speed would be to upgrade your internet plan. Look around for providers who have high ratings in your area or simply upgrade your AT&T plan. Another culprit could be in the computer itself. Do you have a lot of extensions installed into your browser? Does the computer perform slowly overall? If so you should look into cleaning your computer by removing useless programs or disabling/removing extensions. Another good idea would be to try different web browsers.

Youtube/webpages could be PC related instead of your internet connection..

I just built a new computer and there are many devices that I own that have slow internet connections.
