Hey,
So I bought a new Gigabyte Geforce 750 Ti and I am having a problem installing it. When i install it, it just beeps a few times at start up screen then goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor. I think it has something to do with my integrated graphics card I am pretty sure, but i cannot find an option in the bios to turn it off.
I have (from dxdiag)

Acer
Aspire M3420
(Bios ver. 04.06.05)
AMD A8 - 5500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics (4 CPUs) ~3.2GHz
16384MB RAM

I bought a 500w power supply as I knew I needed more so I added that.

Should I update BIOS? If this card can work in my computer, do I crossfire it to make it better or just use the 750? (If possible?)
I looked for videos on youtube but I cant find anything.
If you need anymore info, just ask.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

The GTX 750Ti has always had problems with the old legacy BIOS, and 99% of the time won't work. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this, as Acer haven't released a UEFI BIOS to download for that board.

I recommend returning the card and swapping it for something like the R9 270. It's a better performing card (and works with the legacy BIOS) but is more power hungry. Luckily your new power supply can support it. They tend to retail for about £110.

So there is no place to enter "forced" in integrated settings.
Under Advanced ->Integrated Peripherals -> (the current settings are as follows)
Onboard Sata Controller -> enabled
Onboard Sata mode -> AHCI
Onboard USB Controller -> Enabled
Legacy USB Support -> Enabled
USB Storage Emulation -> Auto
Onboard Audio -> Enabled
Onboard LAN Controller -> Enabled
Onboard LAN Option ROM -> Disabled

Thats all I see so there is no place for GPU. The only thing i see for PCI is under Power-> Power on by PCIE is Disabled. But i tried enabling that and it didnt work.

Where would that be? I am not sure what North bridge is or where to change it?
2 things I noticed, When I plug in a HDMI to my motherboard and took out the original Video card, it works, thats what I am using now. It also opens up options, It allows me to enable or disable AMD-V and set UMA Frame buffer size.
Also, if I setup the new card with the HDMI plugged into the motherboard, it gives 1 long beep and 2 short beeps.
I tried disabling AMD-V but same thing.
Is it possible Acer turned off adding your own card? And is there any options under Advanced ->Integrated Peripherals that can be changed to fix it? I do not see a lot of options in my BIOS like UEFI or picking PEG or anything like that. Also reading that Enabling Legacy and disable the Secure Boot option may fix it, but I cannot find any place to change that. I think Acer locked the BIOS.

That post said they locked his. How do I find out if that is my problem?
Thanks

ya I thought so, I just wanted to be sure. Do you know if my mobo is locked to certain video cards? I have a feeling it is.

Beeps mean something isn't plugged in correctly. Remove everything and plug each back in.

The GTX 750Ti has issues working with the old Legacy BIOS. Is your BIOS UEFI (you can use the mouse) or Legacy (keyboard only, blue background)?

If it's legacy, go to Asus' website and get the latest BIOS for your motherboard.

Its plugged in because the fans on the card spin, and it shows the boot screen (where it says press Del fro BIOS) but will not work after there.

Its Acer, and I have the latest BIOS I think, because the only BIOS I can update on Acers website is P01.A1L BIOS for Linux (I am using Windows 8)
I say I can only update that BIOS is because I read on Acer forum that I can only upgrade the same P01.xxx, but there are P12.xxx (which I tried and does not work). I did not think it would be this hard to put in a video card, damn Acer.

I think its legacy, because its blue background and no mouse, only keyboard

It is Legacy, i just looked at msinfo32 . Anyway to flash a third party BIOS or something to bypass the lock (assuming its that of course)?

So if I check my info using msinfo32, it says I have a M3420, but on the side of my case, it says I have a M3450. There is an updated BIOS for the M3450, can I update that BIOS? Or can/will it mess up my computer?Maybe it will give me a few more options.

Thanks Woody,

So the R9 270 is compatible and will give me similar performance to the 750 ti? If that is the case I may just do that. Thanks for your help.

The 270 is actually better performing than the GTX 750Ti, which tends to trade blows with the lower end R7 260X. The reason that the Nvidia card costs so much is the incrdible power efficiency, which comes in handy on low power builds.

Oh ok, well I see the R9 270 is like $10 (Canadian) more then the R7 290. I assume that will work on my system as well? For $10 more I may as well get the x?
Thanks again for your help and insight.

Hey woody, So I got a Asus R9 270, but now it will not even boot at all, there is just a black screen, no beeps, thats when the card is in and I am plugged into the card or the motherboard with the card in.
So many hassles. I have tried uninstalling drivers, disabling onboard graphic card, all kinds. Any help is greatly appreciated?
thanks
