I currently have a Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AM3+ board with 8gb GSkill RAM that clocks in at 1333Mhz. I recently bought an 8gb set of Patriot Viper 3 Low Profile Red that is 1866Mhz. Is there a way to make this work with my current board or will I need to purchase a new one?
The Gskill RAM Timing is 9-9-9-24 with a voltage of 1.5v and a CAS latency of 9
The Patriot RAM Timing is 10-11-10-30, CAS latency is 10, and it also has a voltage of 1.5v.

Solution
That board only supports 1600mhz (OC) modules at the high end. Those modules won't work on that board. Depending on your CPU, it may also not be compatible even with another board. If you have an FX series Piledriver CPU you can use the RAM with another board, but not on that one. Gigabyte only shows support to 1600mhz.

That's the other side of the coin is that you can probably run those at 1600mhz on the board you have, by itself, without your other module(s), or, possibly at 1333mhz WITH your other modules, depending on the memory, whether it decides to play nice and if you are comfortable with setting up the memory configuration for the newer memory in the BIOS or not. Just pay attention to whatever Tradesman tells you, as it will be 100% correct.

FX-8350 will support 1866mhz no problem. That board however really isn't suitable for the 8350 regardless of what memory is used, even if you're not overclocking.

I'd recommend, as a budget option, something like the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P or MSI 970 Gaming. If you want something a little higher end, but not top shelf, I'd look at Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 or ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0. The Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 would be fine too. All of them support FX8 and 1866mhz RAM.

I've tried using that board, 78LMT-USB3, with FX8 on three separate occasions. All three times it did of course work, but there were significant heat and stability issues even at stock speeds with good cooling. The only time I was able to get one to work trouble free was using a top down (Downdraft) cpu cooler. I guess the additional airflow to the VRMs allowed it a bit more VRM stability. As for the memory, if Tradesman says it will work, I'm not going to argue it, at all. His word is much better than mine when it comes to that.

For the board with that CPU though, I can say without doubt I've had issues when pairing them and read a whole bunch of threads where others have had similar issues.
