Hi, ive just bought a MS GTX 750 ti GPU, but im worried that my psu is not enough. My PC is HP Pavilion p6-2489ea. On the back of the GPU box its written: 400w psu with a minumum 12V current rating of 20A) Requirements are based on I7 3.2 GHz processor. My PSU details are here : http://zapodaj.net/c5c9bd8d09a50.jpg.html. Yesterday when in game my PC shut down once. Im worried that its because my PSU :( Can you tell me my 12V amperage value?

Your 12v amperage value is around 28A but it is probably lower because your power is split between two rail (12v). The Graphics card requires 5A of power so you should be more than good. I had this same gpu in my hp with a 240w power supply and it works just fine.

Which psu do you have? A good one could deliver the power, but cheap psus often can't even deliver what is standing for. And the MSI 750 Ti is (probably) custom overclocked and need more than original from Nvidia. You should buy a decent psu.

Works fine with HP stock 240W PSU ? Damn i was sure that my 300W psu will handle GTX 750ti. If my amperage is lower than 28A,, How much would that be? Im stuck ;/ I will try to play more today and see if it happen again.

It was complete power shutdown, without any screens

Shutdown can be because of over-heating, RAM stick pairs not in matched slots or insufficient power.

What CPU are you using as that is the other power hungry beast in most PCs? Are you overclocking the 750 Ti?

As summer is here you might want to look inside your case when your pc is on and make sure all the fans are turning. If not some vacuum cleaner suction might be required to get the grime off.

Your chip only draws 96 watts under maximum load and your graphics card another 60 watts. If we say another 20 for all extra components then a 300w PSU is fine.

However...

It might not be giving out 300w of power. Have you ever smelt burning coming from your PSU? On the side of the PSU is should have a sticker saying something like 80+ Bronze. The number is how efficient it is. So if it says 55 or 65 your system isn't getting enough juice and its attempt to draw it damages your PSU (causing the burning smell and shutdowns)

80+ Bronze is always the minimum you should aim for with the PSU. If it is at least this then a 300 PSU is fine for your setup. In which case check the fans.

If he has a good power supply then its sufficient. Its hard imaging anybody with your setup + other regular components getting above about 180 watts. So if he has an 80% or higher efficiency power supply he is fine.

Your psu has a max of 300 watt at 35c, 260 at 50c, not sure how well your temps are but the ti versions of the 750 pull more than 75 watt from the pci, which is where the 6 pin connector comes in just in case. It could have been just fully loaded and your psu shut down to save itself because it is not a continous psu, it's a switching psu. I had a ftw edition 750ti and I know they call for over 20 amps on the 12v rail, where as your power supply has a 12amp and 16amp rails. You can get a relatively cheap power supply with great quality from seasonic like the sii2 520 watt

EVGA 80+ Bronze 500w for $60 -

If in the UK its £40 at Scan (where I got mine from). It has lower power states so it only supplies your pc with the wattage being drawn (keeps your elecy bills down). Fully Haswell compatible.

I remember my first build where I thought what I wonderful deal I got spending £15 on a PSU. I always wondered what the burning smell was for about a year after. Then it popped and sparks flew out the back of my pc.

A 400w PSU is fine so long as its a decent power supply. I agree with this poster. Acceptable is 80+ Bronze Award. Good is higher than 80+ and silver or gold award. You can cheap out on memory, motherboards, dvd drives, even hard drives, but never on the PSU.

If the electrocution risk doesn't make you stop and consider then the damage to your pc should for when it goes kaboom!
