Hi. I want to build cheap pc for a long time. I came across of getting good processor for a cheap price. I think, that You guys know about that transformation:
http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-775-cpus/

My plan for build:
CPU: Xeon X5460 (can be compared with Core 2 Extreme QX9775)
http://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?pid=2261&pid2=85&compare=xeon-processor-x5460-vs-core-2-extreme-qx9775-3-2ghz

Motherboard: ASUS P5E Deluxe
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5E_Deluxe/specifications/

My question is, if You can, what three graphic cards can You suggest for this build?
My hope was to buy some gaming GTX from 7 series with 3GB memory and more.
But this is old processor. And the motherboards has only PCI Express x16 2.0. Last thing is, that the motherboard support only DDR2 RAM. So I suppose that this processor is slow and old for this types of graphic cards. That it will not take advantage of every new function of this card.

So what do You think?
Will be motherboard with DDR3 RAM better choice?
Or should I find some lower graphic card?

Thanks for Your answers! It is just for fun, i just want to try to make relatively cheap and powerfull cpu. I dont need some ultra-high-setting cpu with i7 and big resolution monitor. Im interested how core2duo is standing now against the new processors stars :)

Well, i would like to try Witcher 2,3 for fun. Maybe GTA IV,V. Skyrim. Some Fallout New Vegas Modding. And 3D CAD for sure. And I'm afraid, that this CPU will have problem with 3D software.

Well, i'm not from US. So i dont know, how You can judge my budget. But, my plan is to buy some used PSU and other parts. And I dont care for case and the sound level much.
CPU: 30$
GPU: 120-160$
MotherBoard: 40-60$
PSU:40-60$
RAM: is a question, i was not searching for prices for DDR3/DDR2 yet (but max 100$)
Cooler: ?
Case: ?
HDD: i already have some 7200 380GB. Maybe later i will buy SSD.
So arround 400$ without case&cooler

I sold my old rig components (8 years old rig) last year for:
Q6600: USD60
CNPS9500 : USD15
3x2GB DDR2 1000 CL5 : 3x USD20
P5E X38 : USD40
450W PSU from Corsair (VX450 or VS450, old stuff forgot the exact type): USD30
CM690 first generation: USD40
Samsung DVD-burner: USD5
Sapphire HD6850 : USD50 <-- upgraded from original HD3850
Seagate 7200.11 500GB: USD20

The prices are not bad in my opinion, I guess, you could use those prices as reference.

Thanks. When i look at the prices, it is alomost the same as here now, if you are searching hard. I think you can buy it here like 20% cheaper. I'm just guessing. Btw, i think you get good prices.

Well thanks! I see Your point. But my problem is, that i dont want any other CPU. I want to try, what i can do with this kind of processor. Which kind of graphical processor it can handle.

Thats ok. You know, i don't know, if anyone can say, what is best graphic card for that cpu, if actually he didn't try it for real. Maybe someone will know. I forget, that on youtube are some guys, that were running new games on similar or same CPU:

Thanks. I see now. If i will buy new one, i will bui this one. I was searching for some used graphic cards, and there is Radeon R9 280x for 160$. Do You think, that it is worth of money for this processor? Will it used it?

I have a X5460 running and have just ordered a GTX 660 TI 2GB.

CPU - SLBBA x5460 3.16/12M/1333
Fan - Arctic freezer pro rev 2
Motherboard - GA-P35-DS4
Memory - CORSAIR CM2X2048-8500C5D 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 Low Latency RAM 1066MHz
1080p Benq RL2455HM
Revodrive 50GB in the PCIE 8x slot with windows 8.1 on it
Separate SSD for Program files and another for games

Should be here in next couple of days let me know what numbers (fps) your after and stuff.

I also have two more monitors to the left and right as it will support 3 in surround mode but I imagine the fps to be quite low doing so.

Hi alexhore!
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad, that we have the similar idea. Can I ask You some questions?
CPU: I have read, that there are 2 versions of xeon x5460; yours [SLBBA (E0)] and other one [SLANP (C0)].
And one of them is not suppose to work with LGA 775 to 771 mod. So yours is running just fine? Are you overclocking it?

SSD: Is SATA 3Gb/s enough for you? I was thinking about buyig some PCIe RAID controllers with 6Gb/s for this kind of computer. Just a thought.

Thanks for your offer! :) Well, i'm just curios, how it will stand with latest games: Witcher 3, FarCry 3, Tomb Raider, Maybe Bioshock Infinite ... Just some popular high demanding games, that are used for benchmarking. So if you gonna play something new, it would be awesome, if you just write, how it is standing.
I dont know, if you are familiar with something like 3D CAD. I want to discover, how it will work, but that is my problem, I'm just saying, when you are asking.

Your card is pretty fantastic. Are you buying new one?

Thanks for your help and comments!
