Vertical lines on the Laptop screen

I have a HP DV7-6175US that has vertical lines on about 30% of the left side of the screen. you can see screen content through the lines. I have a perfect picture when I use the VGA or HDMI outputs. My question is this the cable or the screen??
I have a picture but can't figure out how to post it.......

You're being contradicting, you say it's a perfect screen yet you have lines? Or you have lines but a perfect screen when you use the VGA or HDMI input?

Sorry to be confusing I have a perfect picture when I connect an the external VGA or HDMI output to a monitor.. The laptop screen has the lines

Again My question is do you believe that the problem is the laptop screen or the cable that connects it to the motherboard?

If your laptop screen always has lines through it when it's on, regardless of the cable you use then it's obviously the laptop.
