if u bought the computer with windows 8 it could possibly be on the bios chip, even mroe likely if its a laptop, if u download a software called produkey and run it, it shall tell you ur windows 8 key if its on the bios, it should say "bios key" on it.

I used slmgr /upk accidentally. My computer is from Hp and I therefore don't have the product key
Is it possible to boot back to a system restore point further back i don't know if that will hold your key just worth a shot?

If the HP shipped with Win 8.x, then the product key should be stored in the BIOS/UEFI and it will reload itself when Win 8.x is setup. Have you tried simply re-activating the system?
So why did you run the command (slmgr /upk) anyway?
