RAM not compatible with X240?

Hi folks. I've upgraded my X240 with an SSD and was trying to uprate the RAM but the motherboard is not having it. I got an 8GB stick from Corsair model code: CMSX8GX3M1A1600C10. Can anyone shed any light on why this doesn't work and what WILL work in this machine.

The RAM slots aren't compatible with 8GB modules (unless there's only one slot, which is unlikely).

The total amount of RAM you can install (ie using all the slots) is 8GB.

Divide that by the number of RAM slots your X240 has and that gives you the max RAM capacity per slot.
