So I decided to attempting to replace parts of my PC by myself instead of having my friends help me like they usually do, and that turned out to be a bad idea. I was planning to replace my CPU and Mobo whilst keeping the rest of my parts.

After spending hours discovering various things such as what plugs-in where, I finally managed to install the new mobo and cpu. Much to my delight, the PC proceeded to boot and I was greeted by a new BIOS. I didn't want to mess with anything with my little experience, so I just skipped the entire BIOS menu and went to the OS.

At this point I'm in the process of installing the new drivers over my old ones, but my PC continually BSODs me before I can ever finish the downloads. I resolve this issue by instead downloading the drivers onto a flash-drive on my MAC and then proceeding to install the drivers onto my PC off the flash-drive.

That night, after I had installed all the necessary drivers from MSI's website, the computer seemed perfectly fine and I managed to get off an entire CS:GO competitive match without crashing. I shut it down and went to sleep; overjoyed that I had finally done something by myself.

The next day, I press the power button and I hear the fans spin and the HDD make its little startup noise, but for some reason my monitor and USB keyboard and mouse don't respond. I ended up turning my computer off and on about 2-5 times before the monitor and USBs finally responded. Later that day I'm in the middle of browsing the web when suddenly my monitor and USBs abruptly stop working but my PC continues to run. I turned off my PC and attempted to restart it like I had done that morning; ever since then I was never able to get my monitor and USBs to respond.

My current theory is that either my CPU or mobo is dead. Apparently mobos are much easier to kill than CPUs, so up until now I was assuming my motherboard had failed. The thing I can't grasp is what would cause the computer to abruptly stop working if it had worked before.

My Build:

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130741
CPU: A10 6700k APU
PSU: 600W Corsair
Ram: 1 X 8GB DDR3

I do not have another free PC in my house that I could use to troubleshoot parts; and apparently my mobo lacks an internal speaker - so I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out what part is broken if any of them even are broken.

EDIT: Also, the night that I was installing the drivers - at one point I think a power surge hit the power strip I had all my appliances connected to because my AC Unit, Router, Modem, and PC all went out and immediately back on.

You said that the harddrive is ticking. If so your hdd is damage. If it is not ticking tken the southbrige controller is damage, un other words your motherboard is damage. If questions just post...

Both my HDD and motherboard are damaged?

The HDD sounds just like how it was when my PC was functional; isn't the ticking sound normal?

EDIT: It seems my computer is toying with me.

I decided to swap out the 600W Corsair PSU with a 430W Thermaltake PSU.

Surprisingly, the first time, the BIOS came up on screen.

In my eagerness I remembered that I had forgot to apply a new coat of thermal paste on the CPU after having taken it out several times when testing.

I immediately turned off the PC mid-boot and took out the hot CPU to apply thermal paste. I also decided at the same time to replace the heat-sink with a stock-fan since it seemed to be taking up too much space.

To my dismay, the computer won't boot up again like it literally had just done a few minutes ago
