Hey everyone,

So a few days ago i was playing some games and my game kept crashing, i just assumed it was the game and restarted.

I then noticed while on YouTube or just browsing websites instead of the computer crashing like it did in the games, the screen was now just going black (however, if i do play a game it would full on crash). I can still use the computer while the screen is black so it is running and working.

- I pulled out the GPU and used the Graphic Processor on the motherboard and so far that has worked flawlessly.

- I cleared the CMOS as well and that didn't fix it.

- I tested the cable and that was working fine

Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
BIOS: 08/03/12 10:22:38 Ver: 15.04
Processor: Intel i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z77

Also, my ram is only being half detected, i have 16MB, but its only detecting the 8MB, but im not concerned about that at the moment. Just want my screen to stop going black!

What do you guys reckon? Struggling here, because i don't want to fork out the money for either and realize thats not the problem.

I would appreciate any replies get! Thanks a lot!

You mean 16gb? Try taking the ram out one by one to see which ram sticks aren't being recognized. Then run mem test to test for errors. Might be a ram problem.

Also what temperatures is your gpu reaching? Is it overheating? Download a program like msi afterburner to monitor your temperature. If it is overheating you may need to rma your card.

Second, go into windows event logs and tell me the error you're getting. Is it kernel event power 41? or is it display driver has stopped responding?

It's either one of those two. In either case uninstall your drivers with ddu and download the newest drivers from their website.

(something else to try before returning: reinstall windows)

More than likely the gpu needs to be rma'd. But do...

So i haven't tested the RAM yet, however i did download MSI Afterburner and HWmonitor.

I let my computer cool down for about an hour or so and i came back fired it up and ran those programs.

The computer was just sitting idle for about 10-20 minutes and the temperatures reached 103 and then the screen blacked out. It was a very cool day today as well.

I turned my case fans up to 100% and that only delayed the temperature from reaching those triple figures.

Also when the game crashed it would say in the bottom right "Display driver stopped responding", however in the Event Viewer its saying under Critical that over the last 7 days ive had:

Event ID: 41 Source: Kernel-Power and 11 of those occurred within the last 24 hours.

I have reformatted my PC (long overdue) and updated all the drivers. Also the inside of the case is very clean and hardly any dust at all.

So it looks like ill have to get a new card. I was looking at this one. What do you think?

Thanks for the help! Really appreciate it, would have been screwed if you didn't come along!

Edit: Looks like i need to change my avatar as well!
