Low ping, high FPS but getting lag spike in all games

Hi,

I'm playing MOBA games like Dota 2 and Heroes of Newerth. I have been getting lag, freeze, spike every few seconds in all games for a month.

I'm using a workstation 12 cores, 32 GB RAM, GTX 780Ti. Windows 7 64bit. Wifi Internet (can't use wired.) Router: SURFboard® SBG6782


I wanted to test the stability of my Internet so I tried to ping my router and google, and you can see the ping is unstable, jumping up and down.

I tried to use Windows troubleshoot, virus/spyware scanned and couldn't help. Also, I tried IP release, renew but didn't work. Does anyone know why?

You first ping is to your router, that one shouldn't spike at all, are you connected to it via wireless? if so something is interfering, if you're connected via an ethernet cable however is possible that your cable is damaged somewhere, try a new one.

As for the second ping to an internet IP, you'll have to retest it once you fix your ping towards your router.

Yep, the first ping is to my router, and it's wireless.

I tried pingtest.net and got an error "unable to test packet loss".

The packet loss is 100%.... how do I solve this packet loss issue?

That ping test failed due to your router blocking any ICMP response (ping) from the outside, that's a standard security setting so don't worry about it.

What you need to fix first is the latency between your pc and your router, maybe move your router closer to your pc, perhaps there's some device interfering your signal. It would be ideal to connect via ethernet.
