Hi all. I am building a PC for a friend and all is mostly going well, but I now get messages on boot asking to set the date and time. From the research I've done, that indicates a low CMOS battery (or not inserted) and I'm worried if should replace it. There is also another minor problem that I am not sure is related to the CMOS battery dying or not; If you shut down the PC by holding down the power button until it turns on, then attempt to turn it on again, the LED fans in the front will start but the power light will not light and wont boot until I flip the PSU switch and press it again. I believe it also occurs when shutting down via Ubuntu as well. For windows, I am not sure of as he is supplying the HDD so I can't install yet, and only test stability via Live CDs/USBs.

From what I remember, the Pokemon Gold & Silver cartridges also used the same type of battery to save game data, the CR2032. The battery is relatively easy to replace thankfully, and I am wondering if replacing it will solve both problems, or if the latter issue is unrelated. The motherboard in question is a Biostar a780l3c. Thank you for any advice you may have.

Fortunately, aside from that it appears to work pretty well but I'm worried if a dead cmos battery will cause it to not boot in the future and I'd like to iron out the kinks.

edit: replaced it, but is still having the same issue. It isn't saving settings in the bios after I set the date/time. It's just as if it isnt even there.

edit 2: mobo was replaced, zero problems afterwards. go figure

I just replaced it, but is still having the same issue. It isn't saving settings in the bios after I set the date/time, and hit F10 to save and exit. It's just as if it isnt even there. I've tried two of them, making sure the label is facing up. Not sure what else I can do
