Windows Reboots with Core2Quad Q6600 Problem

Hi everyone!

I don't know if this the correct category, but i will write down my problem here.

There is an issue i am having with a 775 system (specs on the bottom). It seems like that it suddenly doesn't 'like' the cpu which has been working with since 2009. System keeps rebooting, just after Windows has finished loading (desktop).

At first I thought that overheating was the culprit (lot of dust). But even after cleaning, problem was there,

I came to the above conclusion by following these steps:

Used a different PSU: Nothing changed.
Used different RAM modules: Nothing changed.
Formatted disk and tried reinstalling windows vista: not even getting past the "Expanding.." step when installing. Instant reboots around 20% of progress.
Removed gpu and used the built-in vga: nothing changed

But!

Used CPU in different machine. Works perfectly, passed intel's diagnostic tool.
Used disk in different machine: Installed windows normally, works good

And after putting everything back together:

Used different CPU (Celeron D): pc worked great for 20 hours straight, no reboots.
Changing back to my C2Q: problem came back. Instant reboots after windows finishes loading.

Some notes:
1. pc works good with hiren's boot cd and its mini xp, and works fine under windows safe mode,
2. there was a weird issue with the cpu temps when on idle (60c), inside bios, even after cleaning the whole thing. Cpu fan running full speed. But this issue was resolved by reverting to an older verison of the bios f2 from f4b.

Is this a motherboard issue? I don't have another quad cpu to test this, but it seems to me that there is some issue with the mobo being able to handle those 4 cores. Is there any way to test this, before trying to find an old replacement? Or better, is there any other better ideas about what's going on?

Thank you for bearing with me in this long post. Any asnwers will be much appreciated!

Specs:
cpu: C2Q Q6600 2.4GhZ
mobo: Gigabyte GA-946gmx-s2
ram: 2gb ddr2
psu: 460w
graphics: gf 8500gt
Windows vista home premium x86

Solution
You have replaced everything and even tried the CPU on a different mobo, it sure looks like your motherboard is on its way out. If you are sure the temp problem has been fixed, consider getting another mobo, I guess it shouldn't be too expensive for such an old system.

Thanks for your reply! I really don't want to give up on this mobo, so i tried something.

I have managed to stop the rebooting, by tweaking some voltages inside the bios. DRAM = +0.1v, FSB = +0.1v and CPU = 1.35v (default 1.32v).
To be honest, I cannot fully understand why those changes managed to stabilize my system (never been overclocked). Can someone explain to me why? Is it gonna do any harm to anything? Thanks in advance.

Ok... That's really driving me crazy here!!

PC eventually rebooted itself after leaving a long video playing on youtube.
But the bizarre thing is that after windows had loaded again, I did the stress test from intel's diagnostic tool and CPU passed it, under full load...
Can someone put the pieces together?? Thanks!

PS: I forgot to mention in my earlier post that 2 of my 4 cores are disabled through msconfig. It was the first thing i tried, it did things a little better, but it didn't help on its own.
