What size SSD is a good size to run for the OS and some applications like solidworks and the odd game? What size do you recommend?

Do I need to concern myself with 7mm or 9mm thicknesses of SSD's?

Will a 7 or 9mm fit fine in my new Corsair 300r?

Sorry for my dumb questions, I am still learning....

I'm running a 120Gb for OS and about 2 games that I use the most.

I like 120GB for OS and a few of my favourite games/programs that I want to run at optimal speed. The other stuff gets put onto other SSDs or HDDs, that way if you want to refresh your system, you can just back up your user data - Such as desktop, links, documents (with save games), downloads etc. to another drive, reformat the SSD, then copy the data back after. Some program files reinstalls are required but it gets your system refreshed back on relatively fast. I can do this all in around 25mins with Windows 8.1.

Just remember that the larger the size of the drive, the more complex it can be to reformat or refresh your system as you would have to reinstall more...
7 or 9 mm matter the most for laptops - you don't have to worry for desktop. It will fit.

120GB is the base size if you won't be installing more than a single game to it, maybe 2 at most. For anything more, 250GB is recommended.

Get Samsung 850 EVO 250GB if you can.

SSDs is just like a normal 2.5" HDDs from the outside.
You can always add another SSDs as long as you still have free SATA ports, just like normal HDDs.
Depending on the case, you might probably need 2.5 HDD to 3.5 HDD adapter/bracket but this is cheap, should be below 10 bucks, no need to worry.
I would not get any SSD below 250GB anymore, look at GTA V! 120GB will get you nowhere.
