Hi, I'm building a budget gaming rig, aiming for 720/1080 on ultra/high at around 60fps, this is what I have so far: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/
I'm reusing my HDD and OS and was wondering about reusing my old Enermax Liberty 500w PSU but wasn't sure if this is a good idea or not? Have PSUs changed much/at all in the last 6 years or will my PSU basically still be up to the task?
I'm planning on oc'ing the CPU so need a decent but quiet air cooler and would welcome any suggestions (really not comfortable with water cooling and not looking to change my mind on that one)
'm trying to keep the budget under £500 and would welcome any suggestions for performance increase or money savings that I could make.
Many thanks Unholy

Solution
The comment for gaming to be more dependent on GPU, the answer is both yes and no.
Most games depend really on GPU as long as the proc does not bottleneck it.
Some games do need a more powerful proc to run better.
This is where the i5 shines as the sweet spot for gaming and no need for i7.
Look at this:

Price-wise, i5 is not that far from i3.
You do not have to force your way to afford the -k, the non-k i5s are enough for gaming, unless you really want to OC.
i5 is the overall better buy than i3, especially if you wanna keep your rig longer.
R9 290 or GTX970 is more ballanced to be paired with an i5 instead of an i3.
i3 could bottleneck games which needs stronger proc.

The GPU will set the bar on how much your PC will perform, and not the processor as you may think and in this case the i3+290 will do nicely at this budget, should do High settings for quite a while.

In terms of gaming, GPU is the main factor. He probably plans on gaming considering he was talking about Ultra/High settings at 60FPS.

Of course, as long as you can afford it.
If you can not afford the i5, pairing R9 290 or GTX970 with an i3 will do but this pair is not optimal.
