Firstly, here are my full specs:
Intel Core i7-3820 @ 3.60GHz
Kingston DDR3 4G 1600MHZ x 4
GTX 660
Toshiba 2TB SataIII 64MB
GIGABYTE X79 UD3 DDR3 LGA2011 SATAIII USB3
CoolerMaster PSU ElitePower 500w
Windows 7 Home Premium

I bought a GTX 970 (link to card) and after installed it and turned on my PC eventually the boot screen comes up (something resembling this). If I press DEL, F9, or any other key nothing happens, although after a few seconds delay my computer makes a beep sound as if it has received the command. After about 30-40 seconds of the boots screen it then continues to a blank black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left corner. When I install my old graphics card again it works fine.

I went to my local PC repair shop and the guy tried to install it but was unable to, and said it's most likely a problem with my PSU, apparently it's too low Wattz. I then rung up the support line from the place I bought it from and they said it's most likely a problem with my hard-drive (granted they were only basing this of what I said, but I thought I described the problem as best I could). Thankfully they gave me a full refund but I still wish to upgrade my graphics card.

Any help would be appreciated and if you need any information I may have left out I will be checking this thread at least twice a day.

Thanks :)

That sounds like a HDD failure. The underscore is essentially the computer accessing the boot files on the harddrive.

But the fact that it works with your old gpu and not the new one points to psu errors. 500W is enough for a 970, but your gpu has two 12V rails and they don't really support enough Amps to your card. I would look into buying a new psu that has at least 40A on the 12V rail. A really good one is the EVGA 500W B. Here's it on amazon: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438012

Let us know any updates
