I'm installing;

RAIJINTEK PALLAS CPU cooler

on

Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-GAMING LGA1150 mATX motherboard

The motherboard has a CPU_Fan port & CPU_Opt port right next to each other.

Motherboard instructions say;

CPU_Fan (Fan header)

CPU_Opt (water cooling CPU fan header)

Is my RAIJINTEK_PALLAS water cooling? I can find it no where on box, or specs on website. The RAIJINTEK_PALLAS fan connector is black like the CPU_Opt header on motherboard. CPU_Fan header is white.

I'm not sure which one to use, or if it even matters. Looks like it will plug into either (Not noob proof).

Solution
use the CPU_fan port, the second 1 is there for getting creative, either with a dual fan set up or water pumps, Opt stands for optional fyi
The CPU one is the one that is monitored by the BIOS. In many cases the system will not boot if there is no detection of rpm above the minimum on this header.

With an air cooler like you have, you want the fan on CPU

With water cooling, most of the time ypu will have the pump on CPU and the fan on CPU OPT

Most of the time CPU and CPU OPT are the same channel.... the speed of the device connected to the CPU header will be the one reflected in the Fan utility. On some boards (i.e. Gigabyte SOC Force ), they are actually separate channels and separate speed curves can be set up for each header.

Wow, you guys are superfast and very helpful.

I went with RAIJINTEK_PALLAS because it was recommended by several experts on here for my situation (Silverstone HTPC case). I never bothered to ask them what kind of cooling it was. I'm glad to hear it's air cooling. I've read some horror stories about water cooling since ordering it.

Thank you so much guys!
