Hey, I was thinking of upgrading my laptop's cpu, but I have no idea if that is possible or if it would be compatible with the motherboard (can hardly find any information on my MB).

My current laptop is an "Acer Aspire V3 771G-6851" with a "Acer VA70_HC (U3E1)" motherboard, and an "Intel Core i5 3210M @ 2.50GHz" CPU.
I was looking at this CPU (upgraded benefit vs. cost) "Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ @ 2.50 GHz".

For reference..

Wanted CPU: http://ark.intel.com/products/78931/Intel-Core-i7-4710MQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz
PC: (I can't link directly do it and this is really the only place I know of for information on it.. just have to select notebook/aspire/v3 771g) http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
And if it should help.. the link on Newegg where I purchased more than 3 years ago.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215661

So yes, I'm looking for some information on if it's possible to upgrade my laptop's CPU at all.. and if so, is the i7-4710MQ compatible/possible to upgrade to?

Thanks for reading this far.

@Sapphire Thunder,

Oh wow, I had missed that on the specifications.. thanks :)

Update to thread then:
Would any other CPU that fits that socket (FCPGA888) be compatible or do I need to dig further?

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions too!

Updated the post, so read it again. :)

I guess this'll be a continuation the edit I did, haha.

Would that be the way to look at CPU upgrades then? Or do I have to find additional information for motherboard compatibility?

Best confirmation of the compatibility is to find if there is i7 versions of your laptop.
And see which ones they use.

By that do you mean changing the end of the PC model number, the '6851' in V3 771G-6851?
If so, the V3 771G-9456 uses the same GPU/RAM/OS (not sure about MB, but I'm guessing so because disassemble 'guides' generalize as 'V3 771G') but with an i7-3632QM.
Reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215660&cm_re=v3_771g_3632qm-_-34-215-660-_-Product

I also found other similar V3 771G's with i7 2670QM/3610QM/3630QM processors, but they either had a max TDP of 45W instead of 35W and/or their price vs. benchmark ratings weren't on par with the 3632QM.

Means those most likely will fit.
So yes.
