Hey, so I have a new build booting/starting problem with a 980 GTX with these components.

MB: GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK (rev 1.0) Bios: f6
PSU: Antec EarthWatt 550W
CPU:4790k
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM: 2x MEM 8G|KINGSTON HX318C10F/8 R
HDD: 4TB WD Black
SDD: 256GB SAMSUNG 850 EVO
Disc Drive
Case: Antec 900

I have everything correctly wired, I am quite sure. If I put in an old 285GTX, the computer starts and boots no problem. If I put my 980 GTX in, it might run for up to a few seconds then shuts off. Switched PSU with 700W, same problem. I put the 980 in my old computer and it booted flawlessly once. I then moved it back to my new rig and it again booted flawlessly. Tried a restart and thrown into the same shut-off problem again. Then I put it back in the other old computer and it now does the shut down problem. That random booting must have been a fluke? I just do not know.

After the computer shuts off, the psu must be unplugged awhile before I will actually see fan LEDs upon pressing the power button. If I do not wait to long, I see the fans flinch or nothing.

Also booted with integrated graphics just fine.

Put my PSU in the old pc with the 285 and it booted no problem under game stress.

I have gone through the guide on this site for this troubleshooting with no luck.

Tried changing some bios settings that had to do with "legacy..." PCI-E priority stuff, I am a bit new to this so I am not exactly sure what it does, it was a solution I read somewhere else hours ago, but it did not work and I reverted.

Everything seems to be in order and working except when I introduce that 980 GTX. Do you all think I should just RMA the 980 GTX? I have squeezed a successful boot out of it twice on two different computers after it not working, but now it will not boot in either. Seems to be hit or miss, nothing has changed.

Appreciate all and any help everyone and thank you in advance. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

I presume you have nothing OC'ed. If not, it would appear to be a BIOS or board issue. You could see if there is a BIOS update and if that fixes it. (be aware the F7 BIOS prohibits updating to earlier version BIOS) Or do a BIOS reset with the jumper and the battery removed (see manual). But I suspect it is a problem with the new UEFI BIOS of the card and the MB. I've had similar issues with Gigabyte boards recently. But it was only when I had done some OC'ing.

Yea, nothing is overclocked. When I get home I will give some BIOS testing a try. I read some reviews and it seemed like a bunch of people had this issue and a new card fixed it. I have read about the BIOS being a problem a long time ago, F6 should be good, but why not try right? Ill let you know. Thank you!

UPDATE:
Ok, I went to F7 and still the same problem, tried the older computer just for kicks and the same thing. I RMAd the 980GTX, but I can still use this computer with the 285GTX in the meantime. I'll get back to here.
